Have you ever been whale watching??
I’m sure most people agree that there is just something magical about the ocean. I’m drawn to it. Whenever I feel like I need a vacation, I start reminiscing about all of my road trips to Newport Beach or San Diego because I’ve been to both of those cities enough times that it just feels like a second home to me!
Last summer, my girls and I planned and went on a different kind of California road trip than we had previously been accustomed to. The only rule to our vacation was that we would not go to any theme parks. I mean, we love a good theme park, and we’ll continue to visit theme parks, but this particular vacation was all about the beach and the ocean. I’m here to tell you, it was amazing!
I went to TripAdvisor to look for ideas on what we could do (TripAdvisor is awesome for this.) We went to the Balboa Pier, Newport Beach, Balboa Island, Crystal Cove State Park, and more. But my favorite part of this particular vacation ended up being the whale watching adventure that I booked through TripAdvisor. The company was called Newport Coastal Adventure. The thing that made them unique to all of the other whale watching companies that operate from Newport Beach/Balboa is that they have small Zephyr boats that can only carry 6 passengers. You are literally at the level of the water! Besides me and my two girls, there was a man and his son from Germany, and Taylor, the captain of our little vessel.
Rather then continue to tell you how awesome the experience was, I figured I would post a little video that I put together after our adventure. Though this clip is only a minute long, we were on the boat for about two hours. We saw a baby humpback whale, minke whales, seals, and about a zillion dolphins!
If you have never been whale watching, I would highly recommend it. It was hands-down one of the best vacation experiences we have had!
